Mariano Gonzalez and Curro Cabeza have become the story of the London Premier Padel P1, reaching the last eight at Olympia and earning a quarter-final against Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia.

Mariano Gonzalez and Curro Cabeza have reached the quarter-finals of the London Premier Padel P1, a day after eliminating seventh seeds Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal. The Paraguayan and his Spanish partner, born in 2007, beat Nacho Piotto and Juan Cruz Belluati 6-3 3-6 6-4 on Thursday.

They now face world number ones Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who came through 7-6 6-4 against Alex Arroyo and José Jimenez. Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi, the 11th seeds, are the other pair from outside the top eight to advance, beating Ramiro Pereyra and José Solano Marmolejo 6-2 6-3 to set up a tie with Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno.

The bottom half of the draw followed the seedings. Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger needed three sets to see off Juan Tello and Maxi Arce and will meet Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz. Pretoria champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan beat Alex Ruiz and Javi Garcia 6-3 6-3 and play Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo.

In the women's draw, Marta Talavan and Jessica Castelló beat Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso 7-5 6-1 and will face second seeds Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez. Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga, who won 6-3 6-0 against Noemi Aguilar and Letizia Manquillo, meet Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero. Top seeds Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay play Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo. Quarter-finals begin at 10 a.m. local time on Friday.
