Coello and Tapia Win Kuwait Major and Secure Year-End No. 1 as Triay Takes Record 59th Title

Coello-Tapia beat Tello-Arce 6-1 6-1 to secure a fourth straight year-end No. 1, while Brea-Triay win and Gemma Triay sets a record 59 titles

Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia won the Kuwait Major, beating Juan Tello and Maxi Arce 6-1 6-1 in 57 minutes in the men's final. It was their 13th title of 2026 and their fifth in a row after Paris, Rotterdam, Düsseldorf and Milan, leaving them one title short of their record of 14 in a calendar year, set in 2024

The title was worth 2,000 points and mathematically secured the top spot in the FIP Ranking and the FIP Race for 2026, their fourth consecutive season as world number ones. It was also their 23rd win in a row and took Tapia level with Pablo Lima on 66 career titles, third on the all-time list behind Juan Martín Díaz with 116 and Fernando Belasteguín with 162. Tello and Arce were playing their first final together

In the women's final, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay beat Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero 3-6 6-1 6-1. It was their seventh title of the season and their second Major after Rome, ending an almost two-month wait that dated back to the Madrid P1. Triay said they did not make the best start but began playing better in the second set

The win gave Triay her 59th career title, the most in the history of the sport. She moved ahead of Alejandra Salazar and Sánchez, who are both on 58

Brea and Triay will now be on opposite sides at the FIP World Cup in Doha, with Brea representing Argentina and Triay Spain

College Padel League launched in the US with 20+ universities, WPR points for players and a $20,000 playoff in Miami on December 3–5

The United States now has a national college padel league. The College Padel League (CPL) launched this week, giving American students an organized way to play and compete on campus

The league was created by Pro Padel League together with five US club operators: Ultra Padel in Miami, Padel 39 in Austin and Dallas, Epic Padel in Charlotte, Milwaukee and Richmond, Padel N9ne in San Diego, and Bay Padel in San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles. Each school is paired with its nearest operator for court time and coaching. More than 20 universities are on board at launch, with a goal of 40 or more by the end of the first season

Students found and run each club themselves, while CPL provides governance, sponsorship and season-planning support. The league is open to all skill levels, and no previous padel experience is required. Players earn World Padel Rating points for their matches and can take part in NIL opportunities through the league's sponsor network

The season ends with the CPL Playoffs on December 3–5 in Miami, held alongside the Pro Padel League Finals. Up to 20 college teams with eight-player rosters will compete for a $20,000 prize pool, earning their places through local qualifying events run by the operators

The playoffs are planned over three days: group play in four groups of five teams, then quarter-finals and semi-finals at Ultra Padel, and the championship at the Pro Padel League Finals venue. More details on the league, its structure and registration are available on the official College Padel League website

Galán and Chingotto Withdraw From the Kuwait Major as Galán Is Injured

Premier Padel confirmed that second seeds Galán and Chingotto are out of the Kuwait Major with a Galán injury, leaving Coello and Tapia a clearer path

Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, the second seeds, have withdrawn from the Kuwait Major because of an injury to Galán. Premier Padel confirmed the news on October 24, just before the men's main draw got under way at The Arena Kuwait. No details of the injury or a recovery timeline have been announced, and the pair's place in the draw will be filled by another team

The absence hits the pair that stood closest to Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia in the race for the year-end world No. 1 spot. The Kuwait Major awards 2,000 points to the winners, double the 1,000 on offer at a P1, and Galán and Chingotto, who lost to Leandro Augsburger and Juan Lebrón in the Milan P1 semi-final, will not be there to chase that gap

Coello and Tapia arrive as the top seeds on a run of four straight titles, with 12 trophies so far in 2026. Lebrón and Augsburger, the third seeds, share a half of the draw with them, while Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, seeded fourth, are among the pairs who could benefit from the open spot in the bracket

The injury also raises a question over Galán's availability for the FIP World Cup in Doha, which runs from November 2 to 7

Hexagon World Series, the FIP-sanctioned team padel circuit, reveals its 2027 season: four events on three continents, eight teams and a finale in Abu Dhabi

Hexagon World Series, the first professional team padel circuit officially sanctioned by the FIP, has revealed its first full international season. The 2027 calendar covers four events on three continents and was launched at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi. The circuit grew out of the Hexagon Cup, which has held three editions in Madrid since 2024 and drew more than 37,000 spectators in 2026

The season opens with the Generali Hexagon Cup Madrid at the Caja Mágica on January 21-24, followed by an event in North America in March and one in Scandinavia in June, with host cities for both still to be announced. The finale takes place in Abu Dhabi on October 21-24, where the first overall champion of the Series will be crowned

Eight teams will compete, seven of them already confirmed. They include AD/vantage Padel Team, champions in 2024 and 2026 and backed by Andy Murray and Anthony Joshua, KRÜ Padel by Taktika, 2025 champions led by Sergio “Kun” Agüero, ElevenEleven Team USA, backed by Eva Longoria, Rafa Nadal Academy Team, Team Bella Puerto Rico, X Padel, backed by Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly and entrepreneur Loïc Féry, and Dalma Team, a new franchise representing Abu Dhabi. The eighth team and the player line-ups will be revealed later

Each team fields one men's pair and one women's pair, and both count equally. Matches are played as best-of-five super tie-breaks instead of traditional sets, with the first four to 10 points and a deciding fifth to 6, and a Star Point settling a 10-10 tie. The eight teams are split into two groups of four at each event, followed by a final round, and a season-long ranking awards 25 points to the winner of an event, 18 to the runner-up and 15 to third place. Hexagon will keep equal prize money for men and women, though no amounts have been disclosed

FIP President Luigi Carraro called the international calendar an important step in padel's global development, saying the format is designed to bring in new audiences

FIP and Premier Padel officially recognise October 20 as World Padel Day and renew their call to include padel in the Olympic Games

FIP and Premier Padel have officially recognised October 20 as World Padel Day, formalising a date the global padel community was already using. The announcement, issued from Lausanne, comes with a renewed call to include padel in the Olympic Games

To make the case, FIP leans on the numbers from its World Padel Report 2026: about 40 million amateur players in 191 countries and territories, with women making up 47% of participants, and more than 91,000 courts. FIP Promises junior competition runs in 36 countries, the CUPRA FIP Tour visits 59 host countries, Premier Padel is broadcast in 244 territories and the FIP network counts 115 national federations

An economic study by OpenEconomics, based on FIP data, estimates that padel will contribute €8.6 billion to global GDP in 2026 and support about 236,000 full-time equivalent jobs. FIP is also recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia, the European Olympic Committees, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, the South American Sports Organization, the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games and FISU, and padel was part of the 2023 European Games and the 2026 South American, Mediterranean and Asian Games

FIP President Luigi Carraro says padel can bring the Olympic Games a global community, competitive events for women and men, and a sport people can keep playing after the Games, so that young people can dream of representing their country at the Olympics. The campaign includes a new film, with the Games in Brisbane in 2032 as the target, and closes with the line "Padel is fit for the future. Padel is ready for Brisbane 2032"

It is their fourth straight title after Paris, Rotterdam and Düsseldorf and their 12th of 2026, and it adds to their 2024 win in Milan.
The FIP World Padel Report 2026 counts 91,200+ courts in 191 countries and, for the first time, puts padel's economic impact at €8.6 billion in GDP

The FIP has published its World Padel Report 2026, and the numbers point to a sport that is still growing fast. The report counts more than 91,200 padel courts worldwide, nearly 14,000 more than a year earlier (+20.4%), and 3,890 more clubs than in the 2025 edition. Padel is now played in 191 countries and independent territories, 21 more than last year

For the first time, the report includes an economic impact study carried out with OpenEconomics. It puts padel's contribution to global GDP at €8.6 billion, with every euro spent on the sport generating €1.26 in GDP. Annual spending in the industry comes to around €6.84 billion, economic output reaches €13.07 billion, and the sport supports more than 235,000 jobs. The study is based on five parameters: court rental value, facility construction, technical equipment, tournaments and total expenditure by country

The competition calendar is growing as well. The FIP held 290 tournaments in 50 countries in 2025, and 434 are confirmed for 2026 across 62 countries. The report covers the CUPRA FIP Tour, Qatar Airways Premier Padel, FIP Promises and FIP Beyond, and includes men's and women's ranking analysis with a focus on the Top 100 and Top 300, from player nationalities to average ages

FIP president Luigi Carraro said the report shows a global sport that keeps expanding. The full study can be downloaded from the FIP website, which also offers an interactive mini-site and a profile page for each affiliated federation

The International Padel Federation (FIP) now counts 115 member federations after 15 new national federations joined at its 36th General Assembly, held on 12 October at the Spanish Olympic Committee headquarters in Madrid. The new members are Afghanistan, Angola, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Colombia, Libya, Mauritius, Namibia, Peru, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uzbekistan and Zambia, and padel is now represented on all five continents

The meeting also marked the FIP's 35th anniversary. Representatives of the founding federations of Spain, Argentina and Uruguay, together with Mexico and FIP president Luigi Carraro, signed a symbolic constitution. Delegates reviewed the annual and financial reports and proposed amendments to the FIP statutes and sporting regulations

Among the new initiatives is the FIP World League, a competition that will give national teams not taking part in the FIP World Cup more chances to compete internationally, with further details still to come. Para padel was named a strategic priority, with the FIP describing adaptive padel as part of its commitment to making the sport more accessible and inclusive

The FIP also shared figures on the sport's reach. The CUPRA FIP Tour is played in 60 host countries, while the FIP Promises youth circuit is present in 36 countries and has added four continental tours. Olympic ambitions remain on the agenda: padel has already featured at the 2023 European Games and is on the programme of the 2026 South American, Mediterranean and Asian Games, and Spanish Olympic Committee president Alejandro Blanco said he cannot imagine the future of the Olympic movement without it

Delegates also previewed the World Padel Report 2026, which includes an economic impact analysis for the first time, carried out with OpenEconomics. The full report is scheduled for release on the FIP website on 14 October

Premier Padel and FIP appoint Sportradar as official betting integrity partner to detect match-fixing risks ahead of regulated betting from 2027

Premier Padel and the International Padel Federation (FIP) have appointed Sportradar as their official betting integrity partner. The deal comes two weeks after Premier Padel announced iGame Media as its live streaming and data partner from the 2027 season, and together the two agreements outline how padel will operate in regulated betting markets

Sportradar's Universal Fraud Detection System analyses global betting activity using AI and expert analysis to spot suspicious patterns that may point to match-fixing, and alerts its sporting partners when it finds concerns. The company will also run training and education programmes on risk prevention

The framework is built around more than 2,400 matches on the men's and women's Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour from 2027. Regulated sportsbooks will get official products based on in-venue umpire data and low-latency live streams, available for the first time. FIP is also building an official data ecosystem to oversee how padel data is collected, distributed and used in betting, and plans a dedicated channel for reporting integrity concerns

Premier Padel says the revenue from these partnerships will be reinvested in the professional game. "Integrity is fundamental to the future of padel," said FIP president Luigi Carraro

The signature series includes five updated versions of Agustín Tapia's Luxury Genius, a debut model for Aimar Goñi called the Ventus Attack 12K XTREM — a diamond-shaped racket built for aggressive play — plus new rackets for Edu Alonso, Miguel Lamperti and Aranzazu Osoro.
Empower Padel and the LTA launch a four-month pilot using "Padel Activators" to grow women's padel participation, targeting 1,000 new players across Britain.

Empower Padel and the LTA have launched a four-month pilot programme aimed at growing women's padel participation across Britain. The initiative works through "Padel Activators" — women who introduce their communities to the sport and support their progression — starting at three venues (Padel Stars Basildon, Padel4All Eastbourne and Pure Padel Lightwater), with a fourth site to follow. It builds on activity already running at four other clubs, and adds university outreach plus a Next Gen Padel Festival for players aged 16 to 24.

Over the four months, the programme is targeting 1,000 unique participants, 500 repeat participants and 200 regular monthly players. Founded in September 2024, Empower Padel has already introduced more than 1,250 women and girls to padel through over 150 events, and was named Best Community Initiative at the British Padel Awards.

ASICS SonicSmash FF: A Padel Shoe Built for Speed

ASICS's SonicSmash FF padel shoe, released in December 2025, combines FLYTEFOAM cushioning and a rotation-disc outsole for fast, agile net play.

ASICS's SonicSmash FF, released in December 2025, is a padel shoe built around speed and explosiveness rather than pure stability. The shoe combines FLYTEFOAM cushioning, a SPEEDTRUSS plate and X-GROOVE flex grooves with a segmented herringbone outsole fitted with dual rotation discs, designed to let players pivot and change direction quickly on court. The upper uses an engineered mesh construction that keeps the shoe light while still offering support during lateral movement.

At a men's size 45, the SonicSmash FF weighs 356 grams, and ASICS offers it across a wide range from men's 39 to 50.5 and women's 35.5 to 44.5. The version tested arrived in a petrol-blue and neon-green colorway. The design leans on the influence of Spanish pro Jorge "Coki" Nieto's Madrid-based playing style, and the shoe is aimed primarily at agile, mobile players who like to attack at the net, rather than heavier players who need maximum structural support.
